This is the perfect way to set up buy one get one free or three for two promotions.

In the below example we are going to set up a 3 for 2 promotion.

Firstly in the promotion management

Long Name:                Promotion Name:

Type:                        Cheapest Item is Free        

Value:                        0.00

Automatic:                Ticked

Priority:                        Leave as 0

Active Days:                Pick what days the promotion is valid on

Applicable price levels:        Pick what price levels the promotion is valid on

Next you need to add the relevant items into group 1 with the quantity required before the promotion is active in this case the number is 3.
